Local sightseeing – New Delhi
India’s capital and a cosmopolitan city due to the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural presence of the vast Indian bureaucracy and political system.
Pick up from your New Delhi hotel from 8 AM onwards & proceed to India Gate. It commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the World War I. The memorial bears the names of more than 13,516 British and Indian soldiers killed in the Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919. Then proceed to the President’s House/Rashtrapati Bhavan which is home to the President of India. The Estate also has a state-of-the-art Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex (RBMC) comprising the Clock Tower, the Stables and the Garages showcasing past as well as current presidencies, the regal ceremonies, and the rich flora and fauna of Rashtrapati Bhavan, amongst other things.
After this proceed to Jantar Mantar, an observatory which was built by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur. He had found the existing astronomical instruments too small to take correct measurements, so he built these larger and more accurate instruments.
Proceed to Khan market for a sumptuous lunch at a restaurant of your choice.
Next head to Humayun’s Tomb. The splendid mausoleum built in the memory of Emperor Humayun, the second Mughal ruler to ascend the throne, stands as a magnificent testament to the style of Mughal royal mausoleums. It is the first of the grand dynastic garden-tombs commissioned in. The tomb was commissioned by Bega Begum, Humayun’s Persian wife and chief consort in 1565 AD, nine years after the Emperor’s death.
Next head to Lotus Temple. This temple is built in the shape of a lotus flower and is the last of seven Major Bahai's temples built around the world. Completed in 1986 it is set among the lush green landscaped gardens. The structure is made up of pure white marble. The architect Furiburz Sabha chose the lotus as the symbol common to Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam. If you look this temple from top view it looks like half opened lotus temple.
